Jewellery Care Guide

A well-kept jewellery can be worn and treasured for years. Follow our guide to ensure your jewellery stays in excellent condition and retains its beauty for years to come.

General Care

  • Remove your jewellery before bed and before engaging in any activity that could scratch, knock or damage it. For example: doing sports, cooking, cleaning or santising.
  • Bathe and apply any lotions or perfumes before putting on your jewellery to avoid tarnishing. Wait around 10 minutes for any products to dry before accessorising for the day.
  • Store your jewellery away from sunlight, excessive heat or damp conditions.
  • Store your jewellery separately, in a jewellery box or soft-lined case, so that your favourite pieces don't tangle, rub or scratch one another. It is ideal to store the same metals together to make your pieces easier to organise and to act as an additional precaution against tarnishing.
  • Make sure necklaces are fastened when storing to avoid tangling.
  • Clean your jewellery with a soft cloth after each use.

18K Gold-Plated Jewellery

Much like with solid gold pieces, gold-plated jewellery can tarnish over time if not properly cared for. Tarnishing is a process in which the gold reacts to air and moisture, causing it to oxidise and appear darkened.

To keep your gold-plated jewellery looking its best, gently clean tarnished pieces by using a soft cloth with a small amount of mild soap and water. Avoid submerging them in water. After cleaning, thoroughly dry your jewellery before wearing it again. This will help prevent tarnishing caused by air, moisture, and reactions with oils, perfumes, and moisturisers.

S925 Silver Jewellery

Silver is delicate, and, despite our best efforts, it can still get dirty. Fortunately, sterling silver care can be as easy as a quick rubdown. Use a simple microfiber cloth or special jewellery cloth (not paper towels or toilet paper) to clean your pieces. Below are some natural methods to help restore the shine of your silver jewellery.

1) Water and Baking Soda

Mix a 2:1 ratio of water to baking soda (use a bit more water if the jewellery has delicate features) into a paste. Use an old toothbrush or cleaning wand to apply this DIY cleaner in gentle motions. Make sure your jewellery is thoroughly dry before putting it back in your jewellery box.

2) Olive Oil and Lemon Juice

Mix 1/2 cup of lemon juice with 1 tsp of olive oil in a bowl large enough to hold the cleaning solution and a small microfiber cloth. Dip the cloth in the solution, wring it out so that it doesn’t drip, then polish the silver. Rinse and dry the piece thoroughly.

3) White Vinegar and Baking Soda

Use this gentle cleaner to remove heavy tarnish. Soak the tarnished piece in a solution of 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 2 Tbsp of baking soda (expect some fizzing) for two to three hours, rinse and dry the piece thoroughly.
